Zoom and view
- Zoom in and Zoom out: the View menu, keys Shift+Z and Z (xfig), or Ctrl+= and Ctrl+-. Ctrl+scroll and pinching also zoom.
- Zoom to fit canvas fits the whole drawing (Ctrl+Z with the physical Ctrl key, or Ctrl+0). Unzoom returns to actual size (Ctrl+1). Zoom In and Zoom Out (also
z and Shift+Z) step by the square root of two as in xfig: 1, 1.41, 2, 2.83, 4, 5.66, 8, 11.3 and so on (Integer zoom rounds above 2). The indicator's Zoom button sets a value (with Integer zoom, Cancel and Set; command view.set_integer_zoom). Right-click the units box at the top for xfig's Unit/Scale panel (command app.unit_panel): Ruler units (imperial or metric), Show fractions (inches only; off shows tenths), Figure units (Ruler units or User defined with a name) and Figure scale (Unity or User defined with a factor); the name and factor are greyed unless user defined. Set (or Return) applies, Cancel discards. View > Show vertex numbers numbers the points of lines and splines in red, from 0 as xfig does.
- Pan: scroll, the buttons at the ends of the rulers (Shift pans five times as far), the arrow keys, or hold Space and drag. Pan to origin (Home) returns to the page's corner.
- Zoom box: hold Ctrl and click with the left button (Cmd on macOS), then drag and release, or click the opposite corner; the view zooms so the box fills the canvas, its top-left corner at the canvas corner. Right button or Escape cancels. While Ctrl is held the mouse indicator shows "Zoom area / Pan to origin / Unzoom": Ctrl+middle pans to the origin, Ctrl+right returns to 100 %. A zoom box cannot start while a tool is busy. On Linux and Windows Ctrl+click is therefore not the right button; use the real right button, Alt+click for the middle button or the two-button chord.
- Redraw (Meta+R, Ctrl+L) repaints the canvas.
- Portrait/Landscape turns the page (Meta+C).
- Show page borders draws the page's outline in light blue with the paper's name outside its lower-right corner (in multiple-page mode, from the Export or Print panel, the outline of every page); turned off, the whole canvas is paper, as in xfig; Show depth manager shows the list of depths with check boxes to hide or show each; Show info balloons turns tooltips on and off (the delay is a global setting); Show line lengths (Alt+L with xfig's keys) shows the dx / dy triangle with the lengths of its sides while a line is drawn or moved (the message panel always shows length, dx, dy and angle).
- The rulers show the cursor position. The units box shows the current units; click it for Set units (inches or centimetres, a scale for the drawing).
- Document settings has the units, paper size and orientation.
